Suicide Squad: Tom Hardy Reveals Why He Dropped Out

Had all gone to plan, Tom Hardy would've been been part of the Suicide Squad lineup photo released recently. Set to play Squad leader Rick Flag, Hardy had to pull out of the film due to scheduling conflicts with The Revenant, in which he'll star alongside Leonardo DiCaprio. The actor, who'll be seen later this month in Mad Max: Fury Road, told Collider that due to The Revenant overshooting he wouldn't have been able to do both, meaning that he got "ass-slammed" out of Suicide Squad (he has since been replaced by Joel Kinnaman). There were fears at the time that the real reason had more to do with the script, with reports that Hardy was unhappy with it, either due to quality or that the final draft reduced his role somewhat. However, The Dark Knight Rises star has now put those fears to bed:

"Warner Bros. is my home studio and I love them so I was really bummed out. I wanted to work on that and I know the script is really fucking alley and I also know what€™s gonna happen with The Joker and Harley Quinn in that; I won€™t give away too much... it€™s fucking alley. "And that whole territory is something that I would certainly - I mean, everybody loves The Joker. Everybody loves The Joker. Will Smith is a dope guy, but everybody loves The Joker and that€™s gonna, I think, be a very important film for fans.€

"Alley" is apparently a highly complimentary term, and Hardy's words are certainly far more exciting than the pictures that have been released so far.
