Nicolas Cage gets his 2021 off to a strong start with Prisoners of the Ghostland, his long-awaited collaboration with eccentric Japanese director Sion Sono.

Cage plays an imprisoned bank robber known only as Hero, who is offered his freedom in exchange for rescuing The Governor's (an hilarious Bill Moseley) adopted granddaughter Bernice (Sofia Boutella) from a mysterious, demon-infested land.

Oh, and Cage is forced to wear a leather suit fitted with bombs that will detonate his limbs and crotch if he doesn't pull it off.

Though it perhaps doesn't quite take its premise to 110%, it is nevertheless a gloriously ridiculous slice of Cage-sploitation, full of bizarro action and creative visuals.

Prisoners of the Ghostland will be distributed by RLJE Films.
