10. The Strangers: Chapter 2
The Strangers: Chapter 1 may have been an easy box office hit, grossing $48.2 million against a tiny $8.5 million, but the overall reception to the slasher reboot was so resoundingly negative that many assumed the consecutively-shot sequel would fall flat on its face.
And while Chapter 2 grossed significantly less than its predecessor, it was still a modest commercial success thanks to its budget, raking in $22 million - almost triple its own $8.5 million price tag.
Chapter 2 received even worse reviews than the first, though, at which point the law of diminishing returns finally kicked in, as the recently released Chapter 3 grossed just $9.2 million - a steep drop from Chapter 2 that barely covered its production budget of, again, $8.5 million.
As woeful as Renny Harlin's Strangers trilogy has shown itself to be, it's collectively grossed almost $80 million - a decent return on a combined $25.5 million budget, especially once streaming is factored in.
But it's easy to view the entire enterprise as extremely short-sighted considering the undeniable damage these rancid slashers have done to the wider Strangers brand.
