Terminator: 10 Dumbest Moments In The Series

5. Dr. Siberman In Rise Of The Machines

Dumb is perhaps best defined in a movie sequel as "shoe-horning in a character just to link two films together and remind audiences of what came before." In the case of Terminator 3: Rise Of The Machines, that character is Dr. Siberman. With Arnold technically playing a different Terminator, and John Connor played by Nick Stahl rather than Edward Furlong, Dr. Siberman is the only character who both returns and is played by the same actor, Earl Boen. As with the cherry picking of scenes from earlier films, bringing this character back for no valid creative reason just serves to turn the Terminator franchise into a bona fide formulaic one. As for the good doctor, while he was Sarah Connor's shrink in the vastly superior Terminator 2, and a participant in the original movie as well, in Terminator 3 Siberman more or less just appears out of nowhere as a crisis counsellor after Kate Brewster has had a run in with Skynet's offspring. Then, of course, the obvious happens: he sees Arnold's T-800, and heads for the hills, while the audience is once again reminded of what a dumb film Terminator 3 really is.
