Terminator: Dark Fate – 7 Big Things We Learned From The Trailer
There is no fate but what we (re)make.
Terminator: Dark Fate is undoubtedly one of this year's most intriguing films. On one hand, it features the returns of franchise veterans James Cameron, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Linda Hamilton, and even promises to take the story in a new and exciting direction, while on the other, the last three Terminators have promised the exact same thing and failed miserably.
After months of anticipation, the first trailer finally debuted online and, in doing so, it has shed some light on the film's actual plotline and confirmed that it is indeed going for a legacy sequel approach (instead of another sequel/reboot), focusing on a new element of the old story which, when you consider how successful 2018's Halloween was, is actually an incredibly wise choice.
From what we have seen so far, an unfamiliar protagonist will find herself on Skynet's radar, only to be saved by the legendary Sarah Connor (and apparently the T-800 as well), who will stop at nothing to protect her from the evil Rev-9.
Aside from the vague plot outline and the old character returns, the trailer also revealed some more intriguing details about what fans can expect from the upcoming film.
7. John Connor Is No Longer The Target
One thing that became incredibly apparent during the first 30 seconds of the trailer was that the future leader of the resistance, John Connor, is not the target of the film's new Terminator. Instead, this new threat is intent on killing a completely unfamiliar character named Dani Ramos.
Though it's currently unknown why Dani has been targeted for termination, it's likely that it has something to do with what she is supposed to go on to do in the future - much like Sarah Connor was targeted in the original film because she would eventually give birth to John and John was subsequently targeted because of his role in the future war.
While it's possible that the Rev 9 is adopting an approach similar to the T-X in Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines and disposing of some of Connor's future lieutenants, Ramos is probably much more significant than that, given that she seems to be the sole target .
Of course, fans have been left wondering as to what Ramos is supposed to do in the future and, perhaps more importantly, what has happened to John Connor?
