Terminator Genisys: 10 Reasons It Could Surprise Everyone
3. Poor Marketing Has Lowered Expectations
The marketing for this film has reached a new level of god-awful. This first look we got was a set of inexplicable portraits with the characters wildly holding guns and screaming. That was followed up by a series of trailers that highlighted the disappointing CGI and ridiculous plot twist. Compound those with the incredibly generic posters and the marketing job on the film has done absolutely nothing to sell the movie.
Ironically, this historically terrible marketing job is one of the main reasons for hope; the movie can’t possibly be as bad as the things we’ve seen, right?
The people in marketing have nothing to do with the finished product and we’ve only seen scant minutes of footage. Plenty of worse-looking trailers have still lead to a strong final product, and there’s no reason to think Genisys couldn’t do the same.
Worse case scenario: the movie plays out exactly how the marketing has suggested, it sucks, and no one is shocked. But any other outcome will now be met as a welcome, pleasant surprise. Sort of a win-win.
