2. The Entire Script
The biggest problem with Genisys is that it has to have something to tie the set-pieces and jokes together, and nobody thought to hire a team of writers capable of doing so.
When there aren't any robots fighting robots, the quality sags horribly, with some stunningly stupid moments and some glaring holes in even the simplest moments. Like the refusal to answer who sent Pops back from the future (it's classified - or in other words, there was no explanation that could ever have made any sense. Or the inadequate attempts to explain time travel.
Or the idea that people looking at their phones too much will lead to the end of the world. But not before their toaster falls in love with everyone because it's spent enough time in your company.
