Terrence Malick preparing SIR GAWAIN AND THE GREEN KNIGHT?

After so many misguided attempts at bringing the King Arthur legend to life on the big screen over recent years (and no, I don't hold any hope for the Camelot series being made by the makers of The Tudors right now), finally is Hollywood about to play the right card? Malick's favourite production designer Jack Fisk (Oscar nominated for THERE WILL BE BLOOD with PTA) in a new radio interview, claimed Malick who is on post-production on his next movie TREE OF LIFE, has given him the task to scout locations to revive a project they first planned to make in 2002 before life took them in the direction of THE NEW WORLD instead. That project they claim could be SIR GAWAIN AND THE GREEN KNIGHT, an adaptation of the epic 14th century Middle-English poem featuring the famous Knight of the Round Table.

In the tale, Sir Gawain accepts a challenge from a mysterious warrior who is completely green, from his clothes and hair to his beard and skin. The "Green Knight" offers to allow anyone to strike him with his axe if the challenger will take a return blow in a year and a day. Gawain accepts, and beheads him in one blow, only to have the Green Knight stand up, pick up his head, and remind Gawain to meet him at the appointed time. The story of Gawain's struggle to meet the appointment and his adventures along the way demonstrate the spirit of chivalry and loyalty.
Now doesn't that sound exciting? In a world where Tolkien has been successfully adapted into the work of absolute legendary cinema, isn't it about time a legend of King Arthur got the same kind of treatment? source - aicn
