Best Action Scene - Colin Firth: Merchant Of Death
2015 boasted a lot of great action sequences; Jurassic World's climactic dino-smackdown, Furious 7's gravity-defying vehicular mayhem, Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation's opera set-piece, Avengers: Age of Ultron's battle in Sokovia, Spectre's pre-credits scene and pretty much the whole of Mad Max: Fury Road are all great examples of spectacular blockbuster filmmaking. However, the best of the lot came from the unlikeliest of sources; Academy Award winner and all-round class act Colin Firth. The highlight of Matthew Vaughn's fantastically deranged Kingsman: The Secret Service sees Firth's gentleman spy Harry Hart shoot, stab, ignite and impale his way through an entire church full of people in an expertly-choreographed, stylishly shot and brutally violent symphony of blood and bullets, all set to the iconic guitar solo of Lynyrd Synyrd's 'Freebird'.
I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
