The Amazing Spider-Man 2: 8 Leftover Plot Points That Really Need Explaining

7. Does Aunt May Know That Peter Is Spider-Man?

Aunt May It's interesting how the notion of secret identities seems to be slipping away in modern superhero cinema. Films like Iron Man and the Dark Knight Trilogy do away with the idea almost entirely, and in The Amazing Spider-Man, Peter reveals his identity to Gwen fairly early on before later removing his mask in front of her father. And, at the end of the film, we're given a brief gliimpse of understanding from Aunt May, hinting that she knows Peter's secret. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to piece the various clues together. Peter's often gone at night, angry after Uncle Ben's death, and repeatedly comes home battered and bruised. And during the highly televised fight with the Lizard through New York, Aunt May watches the broadcast with a bit more worry than the average citizen might. Since Peter hiding his identity from his Aunt May has been incredibly important in the comics and in the Raimi films, it will be interesting to see how it's handled in the upcoming films.
