Right, look, I’m not deliberately trying to be difficult here, but is there not an argument to be made that… like… nobody plays Batman? Just for a bit.
Yes, I know, it’s Batman and Batman’s amazing and yes, I know, the film is already in production so we’re kind of stuck here, but what if we just didn’t do another Batman film any time soon? Would that be so bad?
Since Michael Keaton first donned the cowl in 1989 we’ve had 9 (nine?!) films featuring live-action Batman as one of if not the main character. I’ve not done the maths - nor will I - but that’s about one every 3 or 4 years. Ridiculous.
Given that the last few outings have been, for varying reasons, not massively acclaimed (either on an individual level or as part of a wider film) a few years away from the Caped Crusader might be the order of the day.
The 8 years between Batman & Robin and Batman Begins allowed the world to reset on the character, and his eventual return was all the better for it. With Batfleck still fresh in everyone’s minds, just… just let it die lads. Just for a bit.
