The Batman: 10 Perfect Roles Mahershala Ali Could Play

Last but certainly not least, we have Jim Gordon. The character is practically guaranteed to be in The Batman, he’s perfect for Mahershala Ali and marks a big contrast from his other upcoming comic book role, Blade. If Ali’s two Oscar wins haven’t made him a household name, an MCU stint certainly will.

Jim Gordon could keep him in the mainstream spotlight without seeing him typecast. Ali isn’t the kind of actor who only takes one sort of role, so it makes sense that even his blockbusters see him diversifying his options.

Jim Gordon, the grizzled cop who helps Batman keep law and order in Gotham, fits right in the centre of Ali’s wheelhouse. He’s recently won praise for playing a lawman in True Detective, although Gordon is quite different from Purple Hays.

Both J.K. Simmons’ and Gary Oldman’s versions of the character have just been kind of... there. Both terrific actors, but the script just didn’t get the best out of them. Hopefully, whether Mahershala Ali joins the cast or not, we’ll see a more active Gordon proving why he’s such a key figure in the Batman lore.
