The Batman: 8 Reasons You Should Be Concerned Affleck Quit

4. Who Else? (And The Looming Spectre Of Zack Snyder)

The choices to replace Affleck are as logical as they are unlikely. David Fincher would be exceptional, but can you see him stepping into a franchise with so many ropey additions to it already? Would George Miller come back to Warner Bros after his Justice League went sour?

And who else does that leave? People will talk about Kevin Smith, but come on - talented director aside, he's more content with making provocatively unwatchable movies on purpose at the minute. Matt Reeves from the Planet of The Apes movies would be a smart outside bet, but you have to wonder whether he's a big enough name to fill the void.

DC need a Joss Whedon type, or a Fincher or Miller - someone extremely top drawer, because this is a prestigious piece and a statement piece. And they absolutely don't want to be saddled with a director who even LOOKS inferior to Affleck as a choice.

And don't get me started on the harrowing possibility that Zack Snyder - who remains in creative control (at least partly) of the DCEU and who did introduce this Batman in the first place - might step in. It doesn't bear thinking about.
