The Batman: Every Character Confirmed So Far (And 5 Rumoured Ones)

With Reeves dedicated to bringing Batman's detective side to the screen, the Gotham PD, and of course Jim Gordon, are likely to play a big part in the movie. Despite not actually appearing in a Marvel property yet, What If...?'s Jeffrey Wright will make the jump from the MCU to DC to portray Jim Gordon.

The Westworld and Hunger Games actor was reportedly not Reeves' first choice, however. Oscar winner Mahershara Ali was reportedly originally in talks for the role, until Kevin Feige and the MCU knocked on the door with the offer of a Blade reboot, presenting the opportunity to Wright instead.

Gordon's arc for the Batman is, as with most plot details at this point, unclear. However, it seems likely that the character will not begin the movie as Police Commissioner. Mimicking his story from the Dark Knight trilogy, Gordon looks set to work his way up to the status of Commissioner throughout Reeves' trilogy, since it is rumoured that Legend's Alex Ferns will portray Commissioner Pete Savage in the 2021 outing.

Hopefully this will not draw too many parallels to Gary Oldman's iteration of the character, allowing Jeffrey Wright to create his own legacy as Jim Gordon and not follow in the footsteps of those before him.
