Okay, much like every article about a new
Tom Cruise film has to go to the effort of reminding everyone that the guy can be a bit odd and is part of a nonsensical cult, now every article about
Mel Gibson has to remind us that he's not got the best telephone manner. But, let's forget about Gibson's personal life for two minutes and watch the first trailer (and first footage no less) for
Jodie Foster's dark dramedy
The Beaver. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DOSOWNS3jts See it in
HD Here. This is a film I've been looking forward to for a couple of years now, ever since those first images of Gibson with his tatty beaver puppet cropped up online. It's not often that Gibson acts on screen these days (more content behind the camera), and it's even rarer that he emerges with a project as off-beat as this. And did anyone thin the British accent from the blacklisted
Kyle Killen script would actually be a
Ray Winstone impression? Summit Entertainment are pushing the heart beat of this film more so than its eccentric qualities, and I'm not sure how wise that is, because it makes this look like a public apology, a film about redemption; which is fine on the one hand and I'm pleased to see that the movie has a deeper emotional centre, but whether moviegoers are going to feel rubbed up the wrong way by this remains to be seen. I for one think the film looks great and I eagerly look forward to Summit finally letting us know when exactly in Spring 2011 we'll get to see this flick. Also look out for rising stars
Anton Yelchin (Gibson's disgruntled son) and
Jennifer Lawrence (Yelchin's girlfriend).
