The Dark Knight Rises: 6 Batman Villains We Could Have Seen

6. Simon Hurt

Why: Father figures have played a huge part in Nolan€™s Batman films, and it would be extremely lyrical to end the trilogy by addressing the one relationship which started it all - the relationship Bruce shared with his father. Simon Hurt is a very cerebral character who uses mind games and hypnosis to convince Bruce that he is in fact Thomas Wayne; Bruce€™s daddy. There are elements of Hurt which do not fit well with Nolan€™s pre-requisites for this world - i.e; the potential of Hurt being immortal and/or some sort of demon. However, Nolan is no stranger to the supernatural - as seen in the outstanding The Prestige. But what would make Hurt such a great villain for TDKR is that it would put the focus of the final film where it belongs, back on Bruce Wayne. How: Working at Arkham Asylum as a psychiatrist, Simon Hurt gets recruited by Gotham P.D in the absence of Batman to help in the €˜Three Batmen€™ initiative. The programme is designed to replace Batman, but when it fails the real deal is required to come out of exile. Hurt is somehow wise to Batman€™s secret, and sets about convincing Bruce Wayne that he is his father. In the midst of this confusion,Waynestarts to lose sight of reality and gradually becomes allied with Hurt. The film would climax with Bruce making the ultimate decision, does he become the number one menace toGotham City or does he allow history to repeat itself and kill the one man he has lamented for so long; does he kill the man who he believes is his father? Who: Ciaran Hinds. Something of a hidden gem, Hinds is a magnanimous spirit who has the ability to seem as regal as a king or as demented as a€.king (George III that is). Those gentle eyes of his seem to convey warmth and trustworthiness one minute, then shadiness and deceit the next. Hinds definitely has the acting chops to pull of such as role as Simon Hurt, and even kind of looks like he could be Christian Bale€™s dad. So there you have it people. My list of 6 villains Chris Nolan could of used, but never did. It'll never happen, but one can only sit and imagine...."what if?"
