3. Tone Could Be An Issue

One of the biggest reasons The Dark Tower is such a challenging work to adapt is that it's a wild mix of multiple genres, chiefly dark fantasy, science fantasy, horror, and the Western.

Unfurling that in book form is a challenge in of itself albeit far easier than on-screen because King had hundreds of pages to mesh these tones together and figure things out.

In a two-hour movie, switching gears between these modes will prove much more difficult, and so there are two likely possibilities: the horror elements in particular will be stripped down in favour of an adventure film tone, or the film will simply be a messy collision of moods and ideas that don't necessarily coalesce.
