The Good Dinosaur: 22 Easter Eggs & References You Probably Missed

5. The Inside Out/Wizard Of Oz Nod

Just as Inside Out's central message is all about conquering your sadness and learning to adopt it as part of your full spectrum of emotions, so too The Good Dinosaur is about dealing with fear. In both cases the message isn't to stigmatise those supposedly "negative" emotions, but rather to use them for positives. That's a long-running theme in Pixar films: in particularly Finding Nemo - which also starts with childhood trauma and has a child ripped from his family - portrays the same issue of conquering fear (albeit a father's fear that drives his over-protective instincts). It isn't so much a blatant rip-off as a conscious adoption of a key narrative idea in Pixar's shared universe.
