15 Greatest Character Names In American Film History

14. Marty McFly ("Back To The Future")

Robert Zemeckis' classic 1980's time travelling-fare deserves to be remembered for many reasons; especially for the creativity behind the name of it's protagonist. Michael J. Fox portrays a 17-year old kid who inadvertently is sent back thirty years in the past via mad professor Dr. Emmet Brown's time-machine (brilliantly disguised as a DeLorean DMC-12). Well in the past, his future mother becomes smitten with him and he must make sure that his parents fall in love or else his existence will be permanently eradicated. Marty is a cool kid for the 80's. He's confident and wise-cracking but at the same time very sympathetic. For lack of a better word; the man is fly. Well, why not put that in his name then? In the sequels we learn that he is of Irish heritage, which of course is hinted at with the Mc in his surname.
