2. More Gollum

Easily the best aspect of both The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings trilogy was Andy Serkis' magnificent performance-captured turn as the crazy Ring-fiend Gollum. He brings a phenomenal level of expressiveness to the character, and there's the general feeling that he probably doesn't get enough credit because the character is so obviously generated using CGI, if entirely indebted to the physical performance Serkis provides. Gollum's brief 15-minute appearance in An Unexpected Journey is a thrilling aside in which he jostles for the One Ring with Bilbo, eventually being left alone without it. Serkis imbues so much manic energy into the character that he's at once a tragic and hilarious figure. Though Gollum's appearances in The Hobbit are sparse at best, given how Jackson has felt free to include characters in An Unexpected Journey who weren't in the novel at all, we wouldn't be too averse to him enhancing Gollum's presence if he can do so without ruining the story. He's such an iconic and brilliantly-performed character that we'd love to see him show up more.
