The Lego Batman Movie: 10 Reasons It's Better Than Snyder's Batman
2. Casuals AND Fanboys Will Both Enjoy It
The golden ticket for any superhero movie is to find a way to appeal to both the foaming fanboys and ultra-casual crowd. The Nolan Batman movies and especially the Marvel Cinematic Universe has done a terrific job of this, but the DCEU? By essentially butchering key facets of not only Batman's character but arguably Superman's also, the fanboys from all sides are up in arms.
Lego Batman, meanwhile, won't do much for the humourless fanboy who can't find the funny in their precious heroes, but for most sensible hardcore fans, they'll surely appreciate the inside baseball jokes and meta humour far more than the casuals. Still, the bulk of the gags are broad enough that the mainstream crowd will dig it, and of course, kids too.
The jokes move so thick and fast that there's little time to linger on most of them, and so the film manages to field out the gags for Batman nerds without alienating those who've never read a Batman comic.
Yes, the standard of veracity to the source material is certainly lower for an animated Batman movie, especially a Lego one, but it honestly wouldn't be surprising if the film ended up with major box office legs and came close to reaching BvS' $873.3 million box office total.
