The Making Of The MCU: 17 Fascinating Behind-The-Scenes Details You Need To Know

5. Joss Whedon Wanted Zooey Deschanel To Play The Wasp

Another version of Joss Whedon's Avengers screenplay included the small yet powerful superheroine, the Wasp.

This was because there was a period of time when it looked like Scarlett Johansson might not be returning as Black Widow, but when Johansson did sign on, the Wasp was cut from the script.

Interestingly though, the book reveals that Whedon actually had an actress in mind if his Wasp plans had gone ahead: 500 Days Of Summer and New Girl star Zooey Deschanel. "Wasp was the funniest character in the whole movie", said producer Jeremy Latcham. "He [Whedon] wanted to cast Zooey Deschanel."

In reality, the Wasp ended up making her MCU debut in the Ant-Man franchise, with different versions being played by Evangeline Lilly and Michelle Pfeiffer.
