The Spectacular Spider-Man: 11 Biggest Mistakes It Needs To Avoid

6. An Emo Tone That Drains The Fun

While it would be a struggle to call the Amazing Spider-Man movies as dark and somber as, say, The Dark Knight Rises, one of the major criticisms of the Marc Webb movies was that they lacked the sense of fun of the Sam Raimi films, with a feeling of mopiness taking precedent simply because it's a fashionable tone these days. There are far too many scenes in which Peter (Andrew Garfield) stares pensively out over the horizon, and it made each film feel like kind of a drag, while Raimi's films aren't completely innocent either: just look at the whole emo Peter subplot from Spider-Man 3. It's not that these movies can't deal with emotional issues, but can't they deal with it in a slightly less somber fashion? Most of the MCU movies manage a perfect tonal mix, so hopefully Marvel Studios will ensure that the mopey content doesn't get out of hand this time.
