The Suicide Squad: Everything You Need To Know About Starro

6. He Doesn't Appear Much In Comics

Due to Starro's adaptability, superstrength, and vast array of powers, you'd assume the Justice League have tangled with the insidious echinoderm many times. But despite his legacy as the League's first villain, Starro has been surprisingly absent from the comics until very recently.

After his debut, he didn't make a single appearance until Adventure Comics #451... which was 17 years later! In the issue, Starro mind-controls Aquaman's pet octopus, Topo, to steal the marine superhero's son, Aquababy. Luckily, Aquaman manages to defeat Starro with a little help from Green Lantern.

The Star Conqueror made fleeting appearances during the 1980s, only coming across the Justice League once. Although he did face the JLA a handful of times during the 1990s and 2000s, he tended to battle more obscure heroes including Hourman, Booster Gold, and Brainiac's intergalactic team, REBELS.

Only after DC rebooted itself under the New 52 banner did Starro begin to show up routinely again. Not only has he fought many top-tier superheroes including Green Lantern and Swamp Thing in recent stories, he's played an integral role in many major events following the introduction of DC Rebirth including No Justice and the Dark Nights: Metal series.
