The Worst Thing About Every MCU Film

16. Wasting Malekith And Jane Foster - Thor: The Dark World

The arch-villain of Thor: The Dark World, Malekith, may be the worst villain in the entire MCU. Although Natalie Portman received a lot of hate for her performance in this film, she was given very little to do and, much like Odin in the previous movie, is left in stasis for much of the story.

In the original script, Malekith's backstory was explored in depth and Jane was going to become a villain in the third act after being consumed by the Aether. So why were these ideas abandoned?

One word; Loki. Thor's step-brother was never meant to be in the film, and was thrown in at the last minute after Marvel bosses saw how popular the trickster had become. This caused the script to be drastically rewritten, causing the main villain and the central love interest to be given far smaller roles.
