Thor: Ragnarok - Everything We Know So Far

8. Jane Foster And Erik Selvig Won't Be Returning

While Natalie Portman's Jane Foster was a major player in the first two Thor movies, she won't be returning for Thor: Ragnarok.

The writing was on the wall when she was given a mere name-drop in Avengers: Age Of Ultron, and sure enough, the character is being written out in favour of a new love interest; Tessa Thompson's Valkyrie.

Marvel Studios President, Kevin Feige, explained her omission by stating that she's been cut for "many reasons", that "are in the film", mentioning that "80 to 90 percent [of Thor 3] takes place in the cosmos."

In short, most of the film takes place in space but Jane Foster is down on Earth.

Elsewhere, Stellan Skarsgård's Dr. Erik Selvig will not be making an appearance, with the actor revealing last year that Thor: Ragnarok is not on his schedule.

And while there's no concrete evidence to indicate as such, it's unlikely Kat Dennings' Darcy Lewis will show up either, given the absence of Portman and Skarsgård, plus the fact that the film is mostly cosmos-based.

In 2022, he took charge of WhoCulture and has grown it into the biggest Doctor Who channel on YouTube, and one of the biggest Doctor Who communities on the web full-stop. He has been writing and video editing since his early teens, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers, off the back of a burning obsession with the Matt Smith era of the show. Like many his age, he first got into Doctor Who with the 2005 revival, but has since gone back and fallen in love with the classic years too.
