20 Movies and TV Shows That Made Actors QUIT Genres
12. Keira Knightley - Pirates Of The Caribbean
The Pirates of the Caribbean was once the jewel of Disney's live-action crown; it boasts one of the most iconic characters of the century in Jack Sparrow, and though the quality had definitely sunk by the time the fourth and fifth entries released, it was still a hugely successful franchise.
Not everyone, however, had such good things to say about their time working on it. Zoe SaldaƱa quite famously left the franchise under a cloud, while the experience drove Keira Knightley away from big franchise films altogether.
Knightley played Elizabeth Swann through the initial trilogy, one of the best and most integral characters of the whole thing, as shown by how much On Stranger Tides deteriorated without her. She returned for a scene or two in Salazar's Revenge, but has since sworn off such projects because of how she was perceived for them, as well as the lack of control she felt while filming.
Though Knightley did admit that the movies are likely the most successful things she will ever make, and that they did allow her to pursue other roles that saw her nominated for an Oscar, she was berated for her performances, and had no say in where, what, and how long she was filming for years of her life.
