Trainspotting 2: 6 Biggest Talking Points From The T2 Trailer

2. The Surrealism

Danny Boyle is a director that's never shied away from daring decisions and risks within his body of work, and his decision to incorporate elements of surrealism and hallucinatory experiences so prominently within Trainspotting was inspired and presented a vivid picture of both the momentous highs and crushing pitfalls of drug abuse.

Scenes such as Renton's aquatic search for heroin suppositories in 'the worst toilet in Scotland', the harrowing visions he experienced after attempting to kick the habit and the ground opening beneath him to the strains of Lou Reed's 'Perfect Day' as he overdoses are among the most iconic sequences of the 90's and it appears that the team behind the sequel have made the decision to retain this element.

Despite the fact that most of the farfetched imagery is only briefly shown, the clearest aspect of the trailer which is indebted to the style is the scene in which Spud descends from atop of a high flat only to be saved from annihilation by the waiting arms of his good mate Renton.

While it's too early to tell what this will all symbolise in the grand scheme of things, it's relieving to see that they haven't neutered the film's more nuanced inclinations in order to appeal to a Hollywood audience.
