Truth Or Dare Review: 2 Ups & 8 Downs

4. It Totally Blows Its Satirical Potential

Truth Or Dare
Blumhouse

There is absolutely a version of this film which could've been so much more fun, by digging deep into the satirical aspect of these narcissistic, social media-obsessed teens and actually giving audiences a film where they're supposed to root for the supernatural entity to defeat the dopey protagonists.

There was also huge potential for the dares to get much more extreme and embarrassing, and while having one character break another's hand with a hammer was a fun start - even with the PG-13 restrictions - it clearly could've gone much, much further than that.

It's easy to suspect that having four writers working together on the script most probably stripped away much of its singular identity, and with just one voice working on the film, there may have been more room for the tongue-in-cheek potential to creep in.
