Truth Or Dare Review: 2 Ups & 8 Downs

5. There's No Internal Logic Whatsoever

Truth Or Dare
Blumhouse

Trying to make sense of this film is, well, a bit of a headache. Now, thinking too much about any PG-13 horror film isn't a particularly good idea, but in this case it's especially troublesome, as so little attention has been paid to the details or even just establishing a basic set of rules and sticking to them.

By the end of the movie, the screenplay, which was cobbled together by four (!) writers, has essentially flipped the bird to the audience and dropped all pretense that there's any sort of logical through-line to all this.

Even before then, though, viewers will likely find themselves frequently questioning how events play out in reality, as the film often cuts between the warped perspective of the player playing the Truth or Dare game and what's actually going on.

Sometimes it's not quite clear how these two perspectives line up, which can prove oddly distracting, to say nothing of the various dubious revelations that take place in act three.
