20 Awesome 90s Movies That Deserve More Love

2. Devil In A Blue Dress (1995)

It's possible that Denzel Washington has never looked better on-screen than he did in Devil in a Blue Dress, a neo-noir detective drama in which he plays a WWII vet dragged into a missing persons case and a whole heap of political corruption.

A genuinely suspenseful whodunit that also happens to be a carefully crafted portrayal of post-war Los Angeles, Carl Franklin's moody thriller finds Washington firing on all cylinders - suave, conflicted, uncompromising, charming - to elevate a very good film into a truly great one.

Also on deck is Don Cheadle, who delivers the finest performance of his career (no spoilers here, but he sells every second of the drama's central mystery flawlessly), and a rock'n'roll soundtrack to die for.

Littered with clever comedy and sharp social commentary, Devil in a Blue Dress is a '90s neo-noir of the highest order, a near-perfect thriller desperate to have its moment in the spotlight.
