Considering how mixed the critical reviews were and how brutally it flopped at the box office, you might assume that How to Make a Killing was an absolute disaster of intent.
Sure, it's basically just Kind Hearts and Coronets for millennials, but the script landed on the prestigious industry Black List for a reason.
John Patton Ford's film about a man (Glen Powell) attempting to wipe out his elite, obnoxious family in order to claim the inheritance denied to him is a darkly comedic hoot.
Even with a few questionable plot elements, the sheer deliciousness of the premise combines with a well-cast ensemble - fronted by Hollywood's It Dude of the moment Glen Powell - to make this an entertaining, tonally adventurous ride.
While not quite fully exploiting its setup, How to Make a Killing deserved a far better fate than a casual shoulder shrug from critics and audiences alike. Here's hoping it blows up big on streaming.
