20 Insane Upcoming Movies You Won't Believe Are Real
5. Live-Action Jessica Rabbit Movie
As successful as the brilliant Who Framed Roger Rabbit was, it's actually pretty damn refreshing that the envelope-pushing fantasy-comedy hasn't had a single sequel or spin-off in the near-40 years since it came out.
Many attempts have been made of course, though none have made it to the production stage, and frankly it's probably just as well, especially with director Robert Zemeckis' late-career output being so frustratingly spotty.
However, back in November Roger Rabbit creator Gary K. Wolf revealed that the rights had finally reverted to him, and he was currently hard at work developing a live-action Jessica Rabbit film based on his 2022 book Jessica Rabbit: XERIOUS Business.
Though the book was well-received as an origin story for the character, the "live-action" part of the pitch is tough to make sense of.
Jessica Rabbit's entire appeal is that she's an animated caricature of a flesh-and-blood femme fatale, and trying to realise her in tangible terms seems destined for failure.
We can only hope that Wolf means the film will have a live-action base with integrated animated elements like the original. But Hollywood being Hollywood, they'll probably push for Sydney Sweeney to play a live-action Jessica instead.
Considering how much time has passed and all, it just might be best to let the world of Roger Rabbit be a cinematic one-off.
