5. Cory Michael Smith - October
October is the much anticipated new film from the fantastic director behind Blue Ruin, Green Room, and most recently Rebel Ridge, Jeremy Saulnier.
Saulnier and A24 are playing their cards close to the chest, though reports indicate that October is a fugitive horror-thriller set during Halloween, in which a man suspected of a mass murder goes on the run, kickstarting a desperate manhunt.
Cory Michael Smith will play said fugitive - a rising star best known for his acclaimed performances as The Riddler on the TV series Gotham and also the films Saturday Night and Mountainhead.
It's beyond evident that Saulnier has a knack for serving up compelling, nuanced protagonists forced to get their hands very, very dirty, and it doesn't take too much thought to picture Smith having an absolute blast with such a gritty role.
Again, there's still so much we don't know about October, but considering the track records of both Saulnier and Smith, it's tough not to be excited.
