20 Upcoming Horror Movies That Are Already DOOMED

15. Saw XI

Saw X John Kramer Jigsaw
Lionsgate

The critical and commercial success of Saw X back in 2023 ensured that Saw XI was fast-tracked into development, with an initial release date set for September 27, 2024.

However, the sequel was first delayed by a year and then removed from Lionsgate's release slate altogether, as reports emerged that development had stalled due to disagreements between producers.

In March 2025, Saw XI was said to be cancelled, though in June of that year Blumhouse acquired Twisted Pictures' stake in the franchise, and it was later announced that a new Saw was in the works with franchise co-creator James Wan helping develop it.

It's been roughly a year since Saw XI was re-announced and we've heard nothing substantial since.

If the film is still intended to be a direct sequel to Saw X, then the clock is ticking given that Jigsaw actor Tobin Bell is 84 years of age.

And even if the new film goes in another direction without Bell, none of the sequels have managed to successfully break away from his iconic character.

Basically, the long-term future of the franchise is in a tricky spot either way, because Saw hasn't proven itself able to succeed without John Kramer.
