20 Upcoming Horror Movies That Are Already DOOMED

Not unlike the current debacle with A Nightmare on Elm Street, there are two competing big-budget Amityville Horror movies currently in development.

In July 2025, Deadstream filmmakers Joseph and Vanessa Winter were said to be helming a new take on the classic IP, and just two months later David F. Sandberg (Lights Out, Until Dawn) was announced to be directing his own adaptation for Amazon MGM.

There's naturally only so much appetite for Amityville on the big screen, and if these films end up releasing in close proximity to one another, the one that launches first is likely going to suck all the oxygen out of the room.

This is without even considering how aggressively the Amityville branding has been diluted over the decades. 

Because the real-life case is a matter of public record, the general concept is in the public domain, allowing anyone to produce their own Amityville project - hence the literally dozens of terrible, no-budget Amityville films which have been produced over the last decade-plus.

At this point, in 2026, how many people are really jonesing for a new Amityville? Just leave it alone, or take the bones of the idea and tell a new story entirely divorced from such a crusty IP.
