20 Upcoming Movies That Have Made ONE Big Mistake
10. Releasing A Week After Dunesday - Jumanji: Open World
The long-awaited fifth (?) entry into the Jumanji franchise finally releases this coming Christmas Day, and while there's little reason to doubt it being another solidly entertaining crowd-pleaser, that release date might well doom its box office prospects - emphasis on the word doom here.
As it turns out, Jumanji: Open World will release just a week after the "Dunesday" event on December 18th, where Dune: Part Three and Avengers: Doomsday will both hit cinemas on the same day.
Though many initially wondered whether this would cause Dune and Doomsday to cannibalise each other's ticket sales, they both have such passionate fanbases that it seems far more likely the real casualty will be Jumanji.
Even accepting that Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle was a surprise box office smash while fending off the almighty competition that was Star Wars: The Last Jedi, it seems decidedly less likely that Open World will thrive against two of the year's most anticipated tentpoles, especially with the previous Jumanji coming out an entire seven years ago.
