20 Upcoming Movies Absolutely NOBODY Wants
8. The Social Reckoning
The Social Network is one of the greatest films of the 21st century to date - against the odds David Fincher and writer Aaron Sorkin made the story of Facebook's creation into an almost impossibly captivating drama.
Sorkin has floated the prospect of a sequel many times over the years, and last June it was finally confirmed that The Social Network Part II - later renamed to The Social Reckoning - was indeed happening.
But there's one big problem here - Fincher won't be returning as director, with Sorkin instead acting as both writer and director.
Fincher's direction is a big part of the reason that the original sings so loudly, and while Sorkin's chops as a screenwriter are undeniable, he's proven himself to be a decidedly more conventional, workmanlike director.
So it's frankly difficult to be hugely excited about a sans-Fincher follow-up that's going to tackle a subject as recent as the January 6 United States Capitol attack, especially with Jesse Eisenberg deciding not to return as Mark Zuckerberg (being replaced by the admittedly great Jeremy Strong).
While there's clearly a ton of talent working on this one - the cast also including Jeremy Allen White and Mikey Madison - it feels like a dubious sequel destined to get caught in the long shadow cast by its predecessor.
