20 Upcoming Movies Facing Huge Issues
1. A Copy Getting Stolen - Fortitude
And finally, for all the problems facing the other movies on this list, at least they haven't had a copy of the film straight-up stolen.
The new Nicolas Cage-starring spy action film Fortitude wrapped shooting last October, and back in June it was reported that an unencrypted hard drive containing a master copy of the film was stolen from Netflix's Los Angeles office.
The film had been delivered to Netflix for acquisition consideration, and following the theft, producer Simon Afram filed a lawsuit against the streamer for $105 million, citing that the theft has endangered the movie's release and a potential awards campaign.
Even ignoring the fact that a film directed by Simon "Con Air" West isn't likely to get much awards traction, the fear that the stolen copy could be ripped and posted online at any time is understandable, even if it's absolutely baffling that any producer would ever put an unencrypted copy of a big-budget film out in the wild.
