The Great Beyond is a new sci-fi fantasy film written and directed by J. J. Abrams - his first directorial effort since 2019's rancid Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker - and as is typical for the filmmaker he's keeping most of the key facts about his new movie locked firmly inside his trusty mystery box.
Though we're still awaiting an official synopsis, word on the street suggests it's about a fantasy novel writer who reveals that the world of his novels is actually real, sending Glen Powell's protagonist on a quest.
This seems to tie in somewhat with the film's previous working title, Ghostwriter, while some sources have even called it a throwback to the classic '80s film The Last Starfighter.
Abrams has never been a filmmaker averse to homage, so it's easy to believe this.
In addition to Powell the cast also includes Jenna Ortega, Emma Mackey, Sophie Okonedo, Merritt Wever, and Samuel L. Jackson.
