20 Announced Movies NOBODY Asked For

Mel Brooks and Buck Henry's hit spy comedy TV series Get Smart ran from 1965 to 1970, and in 2008, it was given the blockbuster film treatment starring Steve Carell, Anne Hathaway, Dwayne Johnson, and Alan Arkin.

Though middlingly received by critics, it was a commercial success, and yet the planned sequel never materialised due to both the struggle to crack a solid script and the increasingly busy schedules of Carrell and Hathaway.

But word recently got out that a new theatrical Get Smart reboot is in the works, with John Mulaney set to star as bumbling Agent Maxwell Smart.

Seth Grahame-Smith (Now You See Me: Now You Don't) will write the script, but beyond that there's no word yet on the director or wider ensemble cast.

Though Mulaney is a solid casting choice for the lead role, the central comedic concept is so broad that it's tough to have much excitement about Get Smart of all things getting dug up for another go.
