Venom: 10 Mistakes Sony Must Avoid With The Spider-Man Spin-Off

2. Water Down The Horror Elements

Our not-so-friendly neighborhood Venom is as much a horror entity is he is a superhero, and these aspects of the character must be embraced in his solo outing.

We're yet to see a definite superhero-horror mash-up in the modern age - Ghostrider presented the opportunity to create one, but ended up being a farce on wheels - and taking this approach could set Venom apart in a genre of spandex-wearing do-gooders.

The symbiote's origin is steeped in creeping sci-fi-horror, so borrowing elements from the Alien movies or perhaps The Thing and merging them with traditional anti-hero principles is an approach that would surely blow fanboy and fangirl minds.

A horror-heavy Venom would almost certainly require an R-rating and tie in neatly with the idea of Carnage as the primary antagonist - there are few villains more chilling in the Marvel Universe.
