Venom Review: 5 Ups & 5 Downs

5. The Venom Snark

The point where the film suddenly gets good is when we start to hear more of Hardy's Venom to go along with Eddie Brock's increasingly frayed appearance. He's basically a walking, talking ball of snark (fittingly for his name, really) who adds a hilarious almost-fourth-wall-breaking commentary to the events happening around Eddie.

It's in the dynamic between Brock and Venom that the film really soars (hence that comment about how good it would have been to just see a one-and-a-half-man show of them at war. And despite how poor the script can be at other times, pretty much everything that Venom says - particularly when he's chewing someone out or making threats - is the best writing in there.
