Vue Cinemas placing ban on Mobile Phones?
Vue Cinemas have potentially opened up a can of worms for themselves, after not allowing a cinema-goer to enter a screening with his laptop in his bag. The cinema chain, which has 69 sites and over 140,000 seats to fill, have claimed via twitter that it is against their Terms and Conditions to allow entry with any sound or recording equipment.
A fair enough point, you may think, and certainly we'd agree when it came to video cameras and such-like - after all, piracy continues to cripple the industry we love. BUT... if a laptop with a 0.3 megapixel web-camera is really breaching their rules... what of the millions of people who carry a mobile phone capable of recording video? If they have really banned laptops, surely they have to follow suit and deny entry to anyone (everyone) who has a mobile phone.... if this isn't going to happen then they must alter their T's and C's accordingly. To compound the issue for Vue, and the unclear message it is giving regards recording equipment, a worker at the Leeds cinema where the incident occurred is said to have "shrugged" when questioned about the eligibility for entry for an iPad and digital camera.
"the guy checking my bag looked at my digital camera (clearly visible in the bag) and my iPad and asked if the iPad was a laptop, I said no it was an iPad.. he then shrugged€ LETTING ME TAKE MY CAMERA INTO THE SCREEN."Do laptops really pose a risk to the movie industry? Have you ever been stopped from entering a screen due to the contents of your bag? Let us know in the comments or via @owfilm on twitter.
