Warner Bros. Already Have Their Sights Set On Suicide Squad 2

They're clearly pretty confident about the franchise.

In reporting on Suicide Squad director David Ayer's next planned movie, Bright - a film set to star Will Smith and Joel Edgerton in a world where a cop who is also an orc is perfectly normal - The Wrap seem fairly confident that Warner Bros. have him in place to direct a planned Suicide Squad 2. Based on fan reaction to what's been seen from the first film so far, it's no surprise that they'd be fairly confident. With a great cast attached and a lot of goodwill cached in the bank, it's not really any surprise that they'd already be putting plans for a sequel in place. According to the Wrap's report, Suicide Squad 2 would begin filming no earlier than 2017, giving Ayer time to pump out Bright. It looks like Smith and Ayer thoroughly got along on the set of Suicide Squad, if they're re-teaming again so soon. Although a film about orcs and fairies doesn't necessarily sound like the most stereotypical David Ayer film, I would've said the same thing about Suicide Squad a couple of years ago. The pressure is on for Warner Bros. to deliver with Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, as bad fan reaction to that could harm Squad's box office revenue. That, or it will inspire disappointed BvS fans to want to see Suicide Squad as a palate cleanser. Time will tell.

Suicide Squad is released on 5 August.
