Wes Craven: Every Movie Ranked Worst To Best

7. The People Under The Stairs

Perhaps the most Wes Craven movie of all Wes Craven movies, this black horror comedy is a roller coaster ride - meshing terrifying weirdness, disgusting concepts, and downright messy film threads together into one brilliantly strange think piece.

The People Under the Stairs has the good old fashioned Craven staple of an inbred family, owning a real estate business that has one family under threat of eviction. When their child breaks into the landlords' house, he discovers all manner of terrible occurrences under the roof of 'Mommy and Daddy', attempting to escape and break out the other children imprisoned in their house in the process.

It's such a bizarre movie that it's unarguably love or hate depending on your tastes, but Craven's ability to mix in a political commentary alongside his staple exaggerated off the wall style makes this one of his more successful, and entertaining films. Whether it's Daddy in his gimp suit or an army of cannibalistic children, it'll keep you guessing, at the very least.
