Wes Craven: Every Movie Ranked Worst To Best

1. A Nightmare On Elm Street

Of course, Wes Craven's greatest movie is also his most famous, with the perfect rendition of a slasher villain born in one Freddy Krueger. When teenagers begin to suffer the same nightmare of a burned, sadistic man hunting them down in their sleep, the residents of Elm Street have to uncover a dark and twisted past if they have any hope of surviving. Die in your dream, die in real life. But how do you stop a creature that's literally just in your head?

A Nightmare on Elm Street is the perfect amalgamation of horror tropes both old and new, and is one of the most lasting and brilliant of films that have founded the horror genre. The gore and special effects are incredible, the set up is convincing and engaging, and Freddy himself is nothing short than the work of nightmares.

It's just really great, as has been reiterated by countless fans and industry experts alike over the years. There's really nothing else that could come close to clipping this movie from its top spot.

Nine, ten, never sleep again...
