What Does The Ending Of Suicide Squad Really Mean?
6. Harley's Free (And The Joker LIVES)

Harley Quinn had initially managed to escape, when the Joker got her neck bomb decommissioned and flew in to whisk her away. But then their helicopter is also shot down (because that's what happens to choppers in this film), and she ends up joining the Squad back up believing the Joker to be dead. Plus she apparently takes a shine to Deadshot, which is enough to convince her to risk her life.
Ultimately, Harley pulls the Hail Mary that saves the world, by distracting Enchantress long enough to allow her and her new "friends" an opportunity to end Enchantress, and goes back to jail. Hilariously, her request for an espresso machine as payment is granted, because nothing goes well with psychopathy like caffeine.
But then, just as you're happily hiding your empty popcorn bucket under the seat and getting ready to leave, the Joker storms Belle Reve having SOMEHOW escaped the helicopter crash and busts her out. Apparently nobody questioned why one of the prison's crew had JOKER written across his chest.
So, that little duo are together now, suggesting their japes will return to haunt someone in the future, whether it's a Suicide Squad sequel, a Harley spin-off or Ben Affleck's The Batman.
