What To Watch This Holiday Season

We take a look at some of the biggest upcoming Film's for the holiday season.

It's getting to be the time of year that the holiday film season kicks off, which means it's probably time to prepare for some excellent viewing. In fact, you may even want to update your television package and head to Marks & Spencer for a new TV, so that you€™re ready to watch this holiday season€™s films as soon as they become available for you to stream at home. The waiting period before watching films at home is shrinking these days, thanks to many different streaming options such as On Demand films and Netflix, meaning that holiday films should be available not long after the season has passed. Interestingly, while this time of year typically brings us a number of Christmas and holiday-themed films, the November and December film lineup this year is noticeably lacking in such themes. However, it does appear as if regardless of theme the holiday season will offer up a number of fantastic films. Here are a few highly anticipated releases to keep an eye on.

Hugo €“ This is a family film that is garnering quite a bit of attention due to its foundation and the people involved. Adapted from a very successful children€™s book by Brian Selznick, "Hugo" follows an orphaned boy living in a train station in Paris as he discovers mysteries and uncovers paths to mystical, fantastical adventures. In a somewhat uncharacteristic, but intriguing move, Martin Scorsese directed this family adventure, and the cast includes Ben Kingsley, Sacha Baren Cohen, and Jude Law, among others. A Dangerous Method €“ This will be one of the premiere "period pieces" out of this holiday season's films, and puts a psychological spin on historical fiction, as it revolves around the characters of Sigmun Freud (played by Viggo Mortensen) and his protegé Carl Jung (Michael Fassbender). In this film, the two will take on Sabina Spielrein (Keira Knightley) as a psychological case, and both will become captivated by her beautiful and intriguing presence. The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo €“ While the Swedish version of this film has been out for some time (and was very well done, in fact), the Hollywood version will be hitting theaters this holiday season, and has fans of the series very excited. Starring Daniel Craig and relative newcomer Rooney Mara (who was first seen by most in the hit film The Social Network), €œThe Girl With The Dragon Tattoo€ is certainly intriguing. Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close €“ One of the most intriguing films of the season, this adaptation is based on a novel by Jonathan Safran Foer. It follows a young American boy in the years following his father€™s death in the 9/11 terrorist attacks, as he finds a key hidden in his home and searches for what it might unlock. The story is dramatic and intriguing on its own €“ but it is the cast, featuring Tom Hanks and Sandra Bullock, that is generating much of the buzz. It has been a while since we€™ve been treated to Hanks at his best, and many hope that this film allows him to demonstrate his extensive talents.
