13. The Wire Massacre - Ghost Ship
Ghost Ship has been talked to death as a pretty unremarkable movie that just so happens to have an incredible opening scene, but it's for good reason that folk are still talking about that damn wire massacre almost 25 years later.
Ghost Ship begins with a 1962 prologue set aboard the ill-fated Italian ocean liner the Antonia Graze, where passengers are dancing the night away while blissfully unaware of the insane fate awaiting them.
We see a hand pull a lever, and suddenly the ship's deck area becomes surrounded by razor wire, which then proceeds to tear its way across the dance floor at great speed.
After a moment, we see the dozens of passengers on-deck crumble to bloody pieces in front of a poor young girl (Emily Browning) who was "lucky" enough to be too short to get caught by the wire.
It's an undeniable marvel of effects both practical and digital, and many continue to argue that it was basically wasted on a movie that's otherwise totally forgettable.
